ImageSeal is a small village, situated between Sevenoaks and Borough Green, just off the busy A25 road to Maidstone.

In 1509 Henry VIII both acceded to the throne of England and married Katherine of Aragon, the first of his six wives. It is said that as an engagement present he gave her a number of Spanish chestnut trees, perhaps to remind her of her homeland. The Spanish chestnut trees can be seen lining Woodland Rise which forms the back entrance to Dorton House, School for the Blind. The trees look as if they will make it to their 500th birthday but are unlikely to live much past that so seeds are to be collected in order to replace these trees when necessary.

The History
ImageSeal is situated on the old Saxon road from Winchester to Maidstone and in 1066 William the Conqueror camped at SELA (Seal) village after his victory at Hastings on his march to lay siege upon the Saxon war lords at London. In the reign of King Richard II the Lord of the Soil was Sir William de Bryene and his fine brass lies in the old church to the north of the altar, a hunting-horn at his head and a lion positioned at his feet. St Peter & St Paul, Seal

There is an interesting monument in Seal Church to John Theobald and his wife Clemence who had seven sons and nine daughters and they, in turn presented their parents with one hundred grandchildren and great grandchildren.

ImageDuring the 1939-45 war the sub-marine "H.M.S. Seal" was damaged, became waterlogged and sank. The prayers of the seemingly doomed crew were answered and the vessel rose miraculously to the surface and the seamen rescued. There was no logical explanation for this to have happened and the event became known as the "Miracle of Seal".
