It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and there is a wealth of history in the area including Lullingstone Roman Villa and Lullingstone Castle. There is also a lovely nature park and wildlife reserve. In the centre of the village is a stone bridge over the river Darent which was built over 450 years ago and is still in use to this day. Next to the bridge is the ford. The village has a range of small shops, several pubs and restaurants and a Junior School. Close by is a shop selling dried flowers and offering courses in the art of dried flower arranging. This shop is famous for the number of times it has won awards at the Annual Chelsea Flower Show.Eynsford has won third prize in the annual South East in Bloom competition and an award for best community in all of Kent. Judges in the Village of the Year competition described Eynsford as an ambitious and well-led community. The History Eynsford is famous for its Roman Villa at Lullingstone which was discovered in 1949. It provides remarkable insights into wealthy, rural Roman family life. There are remains of fine mosaic floors, painted wall plasters and a private Christian chapel. |
